Preferred Customer Ratings

- December 2007 Rating

We invited our preferred customers to stop by and pick up a free premium cigar to taste from one of the new brands we offer. We handed out a Chateau "R", and a simple rating sheet to go with the 5-inch x 54-ring cigar. The results are in! Whether good, bad or indifferent, we have printed them verbatim.

Body: I would characterize this as a medium body smoke and very smooth.
Flavor: It had a nice flavor.
Draw: Initial thoughts... It had a very easy draw... perhaps too easy. Much easier than most of my smokes. I don't know if it was the easy draw (not tight roll) that causes this but it seemed to burn fast. This cigar did not last as long as I expected or as long as other cigars of similar size. With that said it had an even burn all the way through. Because of the easy draw I expected it to get hot but it did not... perhaps I "backed off" a bit? I don't know.

Comment: I believe there are other similar cigars that are less expensive I would chose over this one next time I am in the shop.

  Body: medium-full
Flavor: earthy, with a bit of coffee and leather; flavor grew more complex in the second half
Draw: good, easy draw from start to finish
  Rating: 1-10 9
Comment: great looking cigar with dark brown wrapper; great taste; perfect draw and burn; smoked this one down to the nub; not quite as full-bodied as I expected, but I will still be looking for this one in the store

Body: The first impression is that the cigar seems to be rolled well, but there were details missing in the presentation. The cigar had a crudely constructed cap and the selection of wrapper was veiny and it did not display the oils that are commonly found on wrappers of this color. The foot seems to have been cut by a dull blade. These might not be high-end humidor display quality cigars, but who cares - the cap is cut off and the foot gets set on fire.
Flavor: With the leathery smell of this cigar I was prepared for a smoking pleasure. The first 1/3 of this smoke disappointed me, I was expecting a medium-strong cigar and there was really not much flavor provided at the beginning of this smoke. By the middle 1/3, this cigar started to taste pretty good and it finished even better.
Draw: The draw was not a problem for this cigar, it smoked well with more than 1" of ash. For a proper draw it seems that it's what is on the inside that counts most and not to worry about a rough looking exterior.

Comment: A nice smoke. I was not too impressed with extra wide band on the cigar. This is a cigar that looks a bit rough around the edges and was a bit boring for the first 1/3 of the smoke. This is a cigar that will not impress you with it's looks, but don't go by first impressions with this cigar - the flavor and smoking enjoyment really improves during the smoke. For a short cigar it was surprising to be able to distinguish the 3 distinct smoking sections that one experiences from a much longer cigar, although the cigar's short length limited my ability to really enjoy the last 1/3 of this smoke.

Comment: an enjoyable smoke, even for someone who generally prefers the maduros.
Mary M.
Body: I really enjoyed the smoothness of it and it did not have a bad aftertaste.
Flavor: This was a really nice cigar.
Draw: It burned nice and I used the plug style instead of a slice and I think it made a difference.
  Rating: 1-10 uncommented
  Comment: Wow!!!
John L.
Body: It seemed strong even for a Honduran.
Flavor: It has a good flavor and aroma.
Draw: The draw was good although I had to re-light more than usual.
  Rating: 1-10 uncommented
  Comment: Thanks.

Body: a pretty mild almost 1 hour experience for me
Flavor: Olvidados cigar had a sweet pre smoke smell
Draw: It lit easily, burned evenly and provided consistent full, smooth and smokey draws to the very end.
  Rating: 1-10 uncommented
Comment: A great smoke, but I should definitely mention that I am a cigar-rookie and haven't developed a huge selection of comparisons by which to judge it.
